My Grandpa

Shri Kunhikanan Nambiar was a free thinker.

He studied in BEMP High School, Thalassery walking about 20 miles every day as that was the only high school available. His college studies were in Saint Aloysius College, Mangalore from where he took his BA degree. He had his LT from Government Training College Madras.

He worked in Municipal High School Kannur and after retirement in Koodali High School for 6 years. He had also worked in Town Middle School Kannur for some time.

He was a good speaker and spoke at various public meetings. Speakers in Malayalam were very few in those days. He was also good at translating speeches and was invited to translate the speeches of national leaders who came from other states

He always wore khadi. He stayed most of his lifetime in Kannur town and came to Thottada in 1953.

Shri Kunhikannan Nambiar was an ardent reader of books especially books on religion and philosophy. Even on the day of his death he was reading a book underlining some of the sentences in it……

Some Facts about Mr. Kunhikannan Nambiar

  • 15 February 1891 – Birth of Mr. Kunhikannan Nambiar as the son of Othenan Nambiar and Madhavi Amma.
  • 1923 – Marries Kunhipparvathi Amma of the Vayakkara Padannakkott Tharavad.
  • 06.1927-14.02.1946 – In Municipal service, as History Assistant at Municipal High School, Kannur.
  • 1947-1953 – Works at Koodali High School, teaching History , Geography and English.
  • 12 April 1967 – Passes away at home in Thotadda.
